Olga Cerpa & Mestisay is one of the most distinctive groups in popular music from the Canary Islands. Founded in 1980 by Manuel González, the project has developed
an extensive musical and theatrical career spanning more than four decades. Its lead singer, Olga Cerpa, is recognised as one of the leading voices in Canarian roots music for her vocal qualities,
artistic personality and stage presence.
Rooted in the musical traditions of the islands, Mestisay has developed an Atlantic outlook connecting the Canary Islands with Africa, Latin America and the Portuguese-speaking world. These
relationships are reflected in a repertoire shaped by Canarian folk music, bolero, Cuban and Latin American song, Portuguese music and sounds from the neighbouring African continent.
The group has released more than twenty recordings, created several successful stage productions and performed across Europe, Africa and the Americas. Olga Cerpa’s work with Mestisay has also
received two Latin Grammy nominations, confirming the project’s place in the contemporary musical culture of the Canary Islands.
